The Knowledge Centre brings together official information and published perspectives. Here is how they are presented.

Law, guidance and commentary

Each source is identified by nation, publisher and document type. Legislation in force, proposed changes, official guidance, regulatory standards, Ombudsman material and independent commentary have different roles. Check the applicable jurisdiction and tenancy before using a response timescale.

The status of guidance depends on the document. England’s MHCLG guidance is non-statutory; other nations’ guidance may have a different legal role.

Official references

Articles and documents

External entries use the original article or document title and name the publisher, author where available, and source date. Our summaries are attributed and link to the original work. They are not full reproductions of someone else’s article.

An event listing does not represent a review of its recording. A publication announcement is not a review of the full report. Access restrictions and important limits are stated on the relevant entry. A summary of a supplier’s account is not independent verification of its product claims.

Dates and updates

Publication, amendment, commencement and source-check dates are kept separate. Checking an older article does not make it new news. Legal pages show their recorded source-check date; follow the original link for subsequent changes. Scheduled dates are not confirmation that legislation has commenced.

Corrections

We correct factual errors and record material corrections on the updates and corrections page. To flag a problem, send the affected page and a supporting source using the corrections form.

Contributions and independence

Contributions are reviewed before publication. We agree attribution for original contributions and ask authors to declare relevant affiliations or commercial interests. Being featured or linked does not imply a partnership, endorsement or sponsorship.

Please share anonymised lessons or public links, not resident-identifying records, photographs, medical information or private correspondence.

Use of AI

AI tools may assist research, drafting and website development. Editorial responsibility remains with the Knowledge Centre. Learning exercises use clearly labelled illustrative examples; they do not assess a real property or provide a compliance decision.
